While mentoring, we have observed a unique problem between students and their parents. There is no good relationship between them, and there comes a point where they start communicating less and drifting away from their homes and into the outside world to spend their time. The journey may start on a very good note, but by the end of the journey, the morale goes down. And sometimes, these uncommon factors become the root cause of low marks. In today’s blog, we talk about some of these factors:
Pressure to Excel
Children’s capabilities differ, and coaching classes have groups of students from many different schools. Even though the performance of your child may have been good at school, they may take time to adjust to the new environment and format of subjects. Putting pressure on your child to perform may cause them to drift away; be gentle with them.
Nagging About Food and Looks
Each parent wants their child to be in the best mental and physical health, but it is not good to continuously follow them for proper meals, proper sleep, haircuts, etc. To some extent, nagging is good, but their focus is not on those things, so you cannot keep nagging them about these things. As your child is focusing more on other priorities during JEE and NEET preparation, it is important to help them focus on those priorities.
Low Relatability with Parents
Parents sometimes do not communicate enough with their children, and therefore, the children feel much more comfortable talking to friends and drift away from their parents. Personalities vary, and even though parents feel that they are providing the best resources, there is a lack of connection and friendship between students and parents. For these reasons, students find their friends to lean on.
Low Interest in Preparation
It has been commonly seen that this preparation starts with a lot of enthusiasm due to strong performance in the 10th standard. However, as time and coaching classes progress, the preparation becomes difficult due to challenging topics and questions. In such tough times, children may lose confidence and start drifting away from their parents due to falling interest in their exam preparation. Identifying such problems at the correct stage is very important.
Finding Their Identity
The age of preparation is when children come out of their comfort zone and get exposed to many different streams and different people. They get confused about whether they are following someone else’s dreams or following their own dreams. Since the child’s career is a family goal, the parents should sit with their students and help them find their identities.
A Message to Parents
So, dear parents, all the above factors are equally important in judging a child’s potential. It requires some extra effort from parents to give their children their time and to allow the child to focus properly and not get swayed away from their goal. It is important to take the right measures to avoid swaying away from the track. If your children need any support, please do not hesitate to reach out to mentors, teachers, and parents.
