What are some of the benefits of group study during JEE/NEET preparation?

Group study benefits Mentor and Mom

As new batches and sessions are starting for JEE/NEET preparation for class XI students, many students will begin attending classes with other students coming together from various places. Gradually, students interact with each other during lectures, which creates friend groups. Such groups discuss classwork, homework, and tests among themselves, and they even compete with each other.

The study group that a student studies with is beneficial in preparation. We will tell you about these groups and how you can benefit from a good study group.

1. Similar mentality

When students in a group have a similar mindset, it keeps everyone motivated. Having good discussions together encourages them to keep up their efforts. A positive attitude among students around you helps you achieve better targets and keeps you motivated. So avoid mingling with negative mindset children or having a tendency for blame games.

2. Similar speed

If everyone learns and practices at a similar speed, it is beneficial for all because that way, if you have issues understanding something, you can discuss it with your friends. You should prepare with a group where you can comfortably participate in discussions and cover your homework and doubts.

3. Scheduling and regularity

If you are studying, solving problems and discussing tests and doubts in a group, it is advisable to have a schedule for discussions. You can fix a particular time every week (or more or less often) and collect your queries. This way, everyone can have a much more productive discussion and save time. You can also ask for help from your teachers as a group and get the common queries clarified faster. For the tests, the group can have a discussion time to address all the doubts.

4. Competition with your group

Students who discuss lectures and homework together will naturally discuss performance in mock tests. You should always take tests positively and learn from your mistakes.

In a group, there would be some topics that are your strengths while others where you are weak. You should discuss the concepts and questions where you got stuck or went wrong with others who got it right. This way, you can get to know new ideas and methods.

Despite all these benefits, some students feel complex if they are unable to understand or solve some questions which other students have asked. Instead of getting nervous or feeling pressured, it’s advisable to face the challenges and gradually improve your preparation. Still, if you face difficulties in the group, you can take a call to distance yourself from it.

Although preparation in a group is generally beneficial, and regular discussions with friends and teachers always help, one thing that you should ensure is that you do not fall back on your own studies. Your time shouldn’t be wasted in solving the other’s problems. Some time should be given for self-study and analysis for your tests and doubts. You should healthily compete with others, but you should also compete with your past self.

Your primary goal should be ensuring that you understand all the concepts, complete your practice and homework within time, and resolve your doubts regularly (with friends or teachers).
