Even in the online era, how does taking notes help during JEE and NEET preparation?

Many students do not take notes during JEE and NEET classes; they only listen to lectures. It’s happening more nowadays due to the easy availability and accessibility of online materials in PDF form. While it is not compulsory to take notes, in our opinion, it is very beneficial for some reasons:

  1. Notes make revision easy

Taking notes is a good practice because it helps make revisions easy. When you are near mock exams or even final exams, revising your notes helps you revise topics, examples, and important content in one place. You can create good notes that cover parts from the textbooks and note important or tricky questions. This would help make revision efficient in the end.

  1. Notes help in staying up to date with class

Taking notes helps in keeping up with the pace of studies in class. Half the job is done when you take notes, solve questions in class, and understand the concepts. You also know which topic is more important or less important and how long it usually takes to solve problems from a particular topic. Staying up to date with class contents helps maintain your preparation speed and avoid backlogs.

  1. Notes help in paying attention in class

Some students also take notes to pay attention in class and listen to the lectures, which can be a successful strategy. Taking notes ensures that you listen and understand what is taught in class. This ensures that you have a basic understanding of the concept, and this can help well, especially with topics where conceptual understanding is more important than practical application-based questions. Many of our friends take notes to avoid falling asleep or spending time on their phones!

  1. Notes help in consolidating all content from different sources

Notes become a one-stop solution for a topic, covering the best examples and concepts across textbooks or booklets. This is because a teacher usually goes through all the different sources of a topic and teaches in class. Therefore, taking notes brings all the content to one place.

  1. Notes help in being disciplined

Maintaining notes is a good habit and helps you stay disciplined throughout the lengthy preparation process. Once you create good notes for a topic and understand the importance of notes, you should take as many notes as possible, which will help you stay disciplined during your preparation. It also helps you keep track of your progress in your preparation and further acts as motivation during the later stages of preparation.

  1. Digital notes vs. Physical notes

There are many apps for taking digital notes, and some students prefer to take them. While this also has the above benefits, you need to ensure that there are no distracting apps on the digital note-taking device. This will help you avoid distractions during class.

Thus, we recommend that every student take notes during classes. Even if you do not create perfect notes, noting important concepts or solving examples in class can help you do half your job. It will ensure discipline, being up-to-date, and preparation for your exams.
