Dear parents, do you know these non-academic things may be putting your child under mental pressure?

As we discussed in our previous blog, the pressure is high when students are preparing for any competitive exams like JEE/ NEET as they easily get affected by everybody's opinion.

How can parents help them?

Though academic pressure is the main pressure a child faces, we discuss certain other non-academic pressures faced by children in part 2 of our blog.

1.Insecurities and lack of confidence

Many students have insecurities. In an environment of pressure at coachings and at home, they constantly feel worried about other students' preparation, about the books and material used by them and many other similar things. We as parents should try to listen to them, create lighter moments and help solve their insecurities.

2.Not so favorable home environment

Many parents are strict and want their child to perform better. Though they say that they are not putting pressure on their child, topics of discussion revolve around coaching, preparation and marks. Many times parents are very busy and unable to give sufficient time to their child and the child feels lost. A balanced approach of encouragement is needed by parents.

3.Comparison with other students

Many times students feel low self esteem by seeing toppers around them. Not only with toppers, they also compare themselves with friends or other children who score better. We should guide them to take other people’s marks positively and instead of feeling insecure, seek inspiration from such people.

4.Fear from teachers

If a child is a low performer, they start fearing teachers and avoid asking their doubts. Many times they fear scolding by teachers for asking very basic questions. We as a parent can motivate our child to reach out for help and encourage them to have confidence and try to ignore scolding by teachers..

5.Monotonous life and missing daily enjoyment

Daily schedules revolve around classes, tests, doubts and such schedules become very boring and demanding for a student. They miss going out to play, parties, watching matches etc. and this makes them impatient. We need to understand their feelings and tell them that this preparation is a temporary phase and if good, will have a large impact on their life.

So we would like to conclude that there are many hidden mental pressures faced by a student and with good effective communication with children, parents can be of great help in overcoming these pressures :)
