What are the absolute "No No" things for JEE/NEET preparation?

Updated: Nov 24

Preparation for JEE/NEET is mostly done at coaching classes along with boards preparation either at colleges separately or with integrated classes with coaching institutions. A student enrolled here feels safe and assumes that now it’s easier to compete for competitive exams.

It starts as a daily routine of lectures on 4-5 days a week and completion of homework given. As time passes the schedule becomes more demanding and students find it difficult to complete the studies at a pace which is going on at classes. To balance it, it becomes difficult to understand what to do first and what to do later. It results in some common mistakes which can make things more difficult for preparation.

Here are certain “No No things” which should be avoided as far as possible. Though it is a long list, we are covering some of the points here. Keep an eye out for our next blog for more details on this!

1. Completing backlog at the cost of current topics

Many times it happens that in order to cover the backlog, the current topic is missed and again the backlog is created. It’s very important to understand how much backlog should be covered on a daily or weekly basis and when it’s better to leave and cover it at the end of the syllabus.

2. Avoiding mock tests thinking preparation is not complete

Mock tests shouldn’t be avoided as much as possible. If anytime for a given reason, it’s needed to skip the  mock test,it should be attempted later on with a timer at home. These are the mirror to your preparation and give you judgement about it.

3. Not analysing mock tests once you attempt thinking it will waste your time

Not analysing mock test are waste of energy. Analysing it properly gives you insights about preparation and helps you improve with silly mistakes and tells you about strong and weak topics.

4. Quickly referring to solutions for difficult questions in order to complete more numbers of questions

Seeing the solutions quickly will not allow your brain to analyse critically. You should try attempting difficult questions at least twice or thrice before looking for answers to get optimum benefit from the preparation.

Hope you all understood the above points to avoid mistakes done commonly during JEE/ NEET preparation. Take the help of teachers, mentors and parents to accelerate your preparation and avoid all roadblock.
