8 SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE STEPS TO PREVENT PILING UP OF BACKLOGS DURING JEE/NEET PREPARATION

When you start preparing for competitive exams like JEE and NEET, you may be relatively relaxed initially and think you have lots of time.

But, the preparation goes at a very fast pace.

Many times, students find it difficult to complete homework on their current topics and next topics get started in class. And this, gives rise to backlogs.

So, A BACKLOG is piling up of pending assignments or homework because you were unable to give sufficient time to that subject. It can be a subtopic or an entire topic or even more than one topic.

“Although lost time never comes back, you can try your best to reduce your backlog.”

Here we present a few tips to cover backlogs —

1. SHOW WILLINGNESS TO COVER YOUR BACKLOG

Acknowledging the backlog and showing willingness to cover the backlog is a positive sign and shows that you are not finding excuses. You can do it!

2. GIVE A LITTLE EXTRA TIME

Start giving 1-2 hours extra for backlog topics.

3. ATTEMPT SOME EXTRA QUESTIONS EVERYDAY

Revise theory quickly and even if you attempt 30-40 questions per day, you will have covered around 200 questions at the end of the week!

4. PAY FULL ATTENTION TO CURRENT TOPIC

Give full attention to the ongoing topic in lectures so that you cover it better and faster and have some spare time for previous topics.

5. COMPLETE CURRENT TOPIC SIMULTANEOUSLY

Try to complete your homework on an ongoing topic on time.

6. PRIORITISE BACKLOG TOPIC WITH FUTURE TOPICS

If you know that your backlog will give problems while understanding new topics that are going to be starting soon, you should cover it on a priority basis. For example, if “Laws of Motion” is not studied properly, your understanding of the chapter “Rotation” may suffer.

Similarly if “GOC” is not prepared properly, all your organic chemistry topics will become difficult to understand.

7. DO TIME MANAGEMENT FOR WEEKLY TESTS

Sometimes we give more time to the topics which will be covered in the upcoming tests, and it creates a backlog for current topics. We need to balance our test strategy to avoid this problem.

8. IDENTIFY BACKLOG TOPICS AND REVISION TOPICS

Revision and backlog are different and we need to plan separately.

“Never compromise on current topic preparation for backlog coverage.”
“You should be able to differentiate how to cover your backlog, difficult topics and revision topics with ongoing current topics”.
“Time management and planning each day is important. Plan your day.”
