We at Mentor and Mom have always emphasised the importance of time management in our earlier blogs, whether it was about making timetables (daily, weekly or monthly) or solving questions in a given timeframe.
We think that preparation for these exams gives a lot of stress to the students, but we also see how there are numerous examples in life where things (which are not related to JEE/ NEET or competitive exams) are structured around being efficient and managing time.
Some examples are:
1. Sports
Any sport has time limits to score goals and has ranks as well. For example, in cricket, runs are to be scored within 20 or 50 overs or in hockey, goals have to be scored within a timeframe of 70 minutes. The runs scored, or goals scored decide your own rank or the team’s rank. Players have to work very hard to achieve all this.
2. UPSC preparation
UPSC preparation requires you to write exams or essays in certain defined timeframes. For example, in the movie ‘12th Fail’, we saw the hero of the film being guided to practice writing a 250-word essay in 8 minutes.
3. Television shows
Television shows such as KBC require you to participate in ‘Fastest Fingers First’ rounds to be eligible to sit on the hot seat to face questions and answers. This puts a lot of pressure on candidates.
4. Pitching ideas
We see how contestants in shows like Shark Tank India must give their pitch in 1 minute to complete and explain their business idea, which is quite difficult.
5. Job interviews
Many job opportunities require attempting questions with high speed and accuracy in their preliminary rounds. For example, attempting 60 questions in 60 minutes.
6. Trading
Even in trading and the share market, a lot of promptness and quick decision making is required.
So we shouldn’t be afraid of time management in any form, whether it’s competitive exams or other life skills. It can also be useful in later parts of life or other spheres of life. The practice of time management is helpful in sharpening your mental abilities!
