How could using PDFs for studies be negatively affecting your JEE/NEET preparation?

Due to the COVID lockdown and increase in online education, many times students get their homework or assignments in PDFs or refer to recorded/YouTube lectures. Though this has made things very convenient and accessible, it is difficult to keep track in the long run in your computer or mobile phone storage. We will try to highlight how PDFs could be negatively affecting your preparation and how you can balance it.

1. Assignments

You are given assignments in PDFs form. You attempt it that time by opening it on your laptop screen. You may forget about it later as it is difficult to keep track of solving or writing steps of solutions for difficult questions.

It is advisable to take print out of assignments which you find interesting and solve it on hard copy and file it with your solutions and rough work. Keep subject wise files separately.

2. Textbooks

Try to follow one text book for one subject apart from your coaching modules and keep a hard copy of the book with you. Study from it and mark it with some steps of solution or any extra points. You can go to the library for a hard copy of the same book if that is available. Some additional books for referring sometime can be kept in PDFs form.

3. Mock test PDFs

You may attempt online tests especially for JEE and then tend to forget it after seeing the solutions or before the next test. Take out the print of any challenging tests and mark it with difficult questions and steps of some solutions. File it along with solutions.

4. Topper notes

You may also get access to topper notes in a PDF form. If you find anything interesting and important, take a print-out and keep it with your class notes for similar topics.

An additional problem is that though it is very convenient to store PDFs as they can be accessed anytime and anywhere, you may unknowingly get deviated and start playing other games, YouTube videos etc. which are not related with your preparation.

So try to balance your approach during preparation and balance the online system with offline notes, books and assignments as well.
