“I am unable to recall my Class 11 topics now and unable to score well in mock tests ”. This is what is happening with many students in 12th standard presently preparing for the JEE/NEET 2023 examination.
Most of the students preparing for the 2023 exam are getting some 11th standard topics in their mock tests now along with current 12th standard topics, and their performance is going down due to inability to recall 11th standard topics and increased syllabus. It makes many parents and students worried about the level of preparation and can create a whole set of negative chain reactions and disturbing emotions.
We explain why this could be happening and what can be done -
1. Time is not being utilised properly for class 11 topics which leads to backlogs
Make a list of topics with a backlog and start one topic at a time by giving one hour extra for covering such topics.
2.It is possible that the theory was covered properly but practising a good number of questions was missed
For such a case, students can start with 10-20 questions extra every day for the backlog topic selected by them.
3.It is possible that their preparation of 12th standard topics is getting affected as they are worried about older topics and hence lose marks on those 12th standard topics as well
Backlog topics should never be covered at the cost of covering ongoing topics. Only extra time should be utilised to cover 11th standard backlog topics.
4.It is possible that their day planning and time table is not optimised
Proper planning and implementation of time tables help a lot. In the 12th standard, students can increase daily study hours by 1-2 hours if possible.
5.It is possible that they haven’t understood concepts properly in the past and left the topic at that time and now find it difficult to cope up
In such a case, discuss with them and take the help of teachers and mentors as well. Previous topics can be covered with their help.
So, dear parents, take a dip in your child’s marks as a wake up call but at the same time, do not blame the child. Think positive and start planning. There is always time to take corrective action and score better in final exams next year.
