As new sessions and admission for JEE/NEET preparation are open everywhere with the completion of X board exams, we get many queries from parents about the admissions for their kids.
We write common queries and give suggestions to you about it.
1. Know your child's strength - It’s our duty to understand the true potential of our kids and enrol them accordingly. Knowing about JEE Mains (non-IIT college), JEE Advance (for IIT college), and state-level common engineering entrance exams (CET) will help you make the correct decision about coaching as well as their batch selection criteria.
2. Previous years' results of the institutes - Multiple coaching institutes and individual teachers are available for JEE/NEET preparation. While choosing among them, match your ideology with them and see their previous year's results. Try to see that your child is comfortable in the environment provided there.
3. Distance from the house - It’s essential in many metro cities where a student may have to travel long distances, which often becomes tiring. Though this is not a significant factor in selecting an institution, our decision should be based on good discussion at home. We often see that a dedicated student travelling long distances feels happy about the preparation. In contrast, some students feel sad about a not-so-good preparation available closer to their homes. So, a wise decision by parents is very important at this point.
4. Admission and Scholarship tests - These coaching institutes or smaller classes conduct scholarship tests at regular intervals or take a test individually for your child. These are genuine at most places, with some scholarships and offers provided to your child depending on their performance in the test. Understand the process and then decide about the admission.
5. XII Board selection - This is an important decision for parents. Many cities have a majority of CBSE schools and coaching available to them. It’s become more manageable for the students to prepare for exams. Certain places have state boards available near parents' houses, and they have to enrol in them. Though it's a little more challenging, but with proper guidance and strategy, things are easier as syllabus topics are similar for each board.
