Are you a worried parent about your child’s batch in the coaching institutes? How and why is it done?

As more and more new admissions are happening for the new academic year for XI, many parents ask us about the size and type of the batch at various institutes and the batch segregation later on. Depending upon the number of admissions, few or many batches of students are formed for one XI standard. For example, one coaching class may have 2-3 batches, while others may have 8-10 batches or more.

We will tell you the different aspects of this in the following points.

1. Fixed batches - Many local/smaller classes have the criteria of keeping the batch fixed for the students from the beginning, irrespective of their performance during the preparation and marks in mock tests. This gives them a sense of security and happiness, and they don’t feel inferior at any point due to discrimination based on marks.

In this kind of preparation, there is a possibility that a student with true potential may suffer as peer groups of all sorts of students are there.

2. Segregated batches - Most of the bigger institutes have a system of reshuffling after a few months of preparation based on the marks obtained in the mock tests.

Here, true potential is identified, and preparation is stepped up accordingly. Plus, if a child is unable to cope with the existing syllabus, it’s not advisable to push them very hard so that they are not given a higher batch.

In this setup, if a student is promoted to the upper batch, they must put in better effort now. A student may remain in the same batch, where it doesn’t matter much to them. Most of the time, parents also blame institutes for partiality towards their children.

Coaching institutes manage all these things internally according to the student's capabilities. It doesn’t affect the preparation much. In fact, if a student prepares among similar levels of students, it’s better for him. From here or from this level, they can always manage a higher batch with little extra effort. What is more important is to ensure that concepts taught in lectures are correctly understood, doubts are cleared regularly, and sufficient practice and tests are done.

It is important for parents to understand this for their child because if they feel any mismatch, they can always approach the teachers or mentor. Equally important is understanding why coaching keeps the segregation process and taking it positively.
