Why is balancing all preparation for boards, NEET, JEE mains and JEE advanced important?

Writer: Monika MittalMonika Mittal

Many of the students and parents remain confused between the time allotted to boards and competitive exam preparation. It gives a lot of insecurity in their minds.

We tell you how you can plan your preparation for the best results for boards as well as competitive exams.

1. Choose books and materials wisely

NCERT books/ state board books may be referred from the beginning for concept clarification and try to attempt similar topic questions from modules. This will help you both ways. Referring to higher textbooks should be done once you are able to balance the reading of board books and solving coaching modules or materials.

2. Divide time wisely

It becomes easier for a student to understand the board books once he attends coaching regularly. So even giving 1-2 hours to board preparation daily is sufficient in the initial days and the remaining time should be utilized for competitive exam preparation. Increase this time for board preparation by 2-3 months prior to the actual XII board exams.

3. Identify Overlapping subjects and topics

Many topics of Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Biology of board preparation and competitive exam preparation match with each other. They should be clubbed together or studied together. The pattern of board and competitive exams are different but concepts are similar and are used in both exams.

4. Identify optional subjects

Subjects like English, Hindi, Computer science, and Physical Education are easier to prepare and you can give 1-2 hours once a week should be sufficient.

5. Don’t underestimate the importance of board exams

This is very important to understand that a minimum of 75 percent qualifying marks are needed for admission to certain colleges. Apart from this XII percentage matters for higher education.

So with good planning and an understanding of the type of preparation needed for both, you can prepare better for both exams.
